OPEN LETTER
In the context of European Medical Oncology Society(ESMO),we ask you to analyze the possibility that Order 1044 ,published at 31.08.2006,that medical oncology to continue to remain a certain specialty,as it is in most E.U. countries(23 of 24).
This would be beneficial for oncological patients from at least 5 points of view:
- At present,as well as since 2002,the National Subprogramme 2.2 of prevention and control in oncological pathology insures specific oncological treatment for all patients with cancer and thus free access to life; through the situation created there is the risk that all these patients won’t be able to receive oncological treatment.
- Through this programme it can be correctly watched anytime and by anybody the way alloted money are spent, how much it costs the treatment of an oncological patient in any medical center in the country, and by this new order for sure many patients won’t get a correct speciality treatment.
- In the present state where there are 160 oncological entities, the disappearance of the medical oncologist endangers the medical act oncologically correct, because only he has the right training for establishing the therapeutic indication.
- The medical oncologist is the only specialist trained to integrate all therapeutic acts from the other specialties that aren’t in the copetence of internal medicine.
- The medical oncologist is the only one in Romanian nomenclator of specialties who is able to take care of the oncological patient, from diagnosis till removing from evidence.
In this new created situation we draw the attention to the fact that this possibility was suspended, and hundreds of thousands of oncological patients will from one medical cabinet to the other, and nobody will be responsible for monitoring their life.
